I was counting down to 2008 at east coast.. while playing with the sparklers, i saw ppl throwing it into the sea to see how far they can throw.. It got me thinking....
Tourist often refer to Singapore as a Clean and Green country.. but in actual fact, the ones who are keeping Singapore clean are the cleaners not Singaporeans! Back to the sparklers, the sparklers is a must for most of us who want to celebrate special days like new year and christmas. It is a form of entertainment for us. But the way singaporeans treat the used sparklers is a problem! Throwing the sparklers into the sea is not a good thing to do! The used sparklers which were not thrown into the sea is being left on the beach and no one is bothered to throw it away!
Piles and piles of sparklers were left there to rot?! Why can't ppl just throw away the sparklers into the bin as its just a stone throw away! People are selfish! Imagine if you were the one on the beach and suddenly you step on something sharp thus hurting you, and when you look down, it is those left overs sparklers left behind.. What would you think? "Who is the stupid inconsiderate person who left it here!!" People should not just play and leave the mess to other ppl to clean it up!! Do you expect other People to clean your ass after you shit?
Parents should set a good example by clearing the sparklers away after they are done playing with it. If parents just leave it there and pat their backside and go, their children will do the same thing too! Wat if it is their child that steps on the used sparkles? Who would they blame? The cleaners and the govt. Keeping the place clean is not just the responsibility of the govt but it is everyones responsibility!
My heart hurts seeing all those used sparklers left behind and those sparklers which are thrown into the sea.. What will happen to the wild life and marine creatures? Do people even care to think of the consequences?
